General Reminders and information

Review of our Reception area procedures

We have recently reviewed our reception area procedures when parents/carers have to visit the school in person during the school day.  To safeguard our students and staff, we do have to have strict guidelines in place.  With this in mind please could we reiterate the following points:

  • If your child is experiencing anxiety about coming into school on their own, please could we ask you use The Hub before school.  There is a member of our pastoral team in The Hub and they will be able to help you get your child into school.  The Hub is a small cabin through the gate to the left hand side of reception.
  • If you are wanting to speak to a specific member of staff, this is not always possible as they may already be in a meeting or teaching.  Therefore, we would always ask for you to try and email the staff member where possible for them to contact you at a convenient time for you both and then arrange a scheduled meeting rather than an unnecessary journey bring made.
  • If you urgently need to speak to someone and you have not booked an appointment with a staff member, we would ask you to sign in at reception.  The receptionist will try their best to find a suitable person for you to speak to.  Where this is not possible, we may have to take some information from you and then get the appropriate person to make contact with you later during the day.  We will always endeavour to find someone to speak with you in person, but sometimes this is not always possible.
  • If your child is unwell and they contact you to come and get them, please DO NOT just turn up at reception to collect them.  Please ask them to go to medbay and if medbay feel they need to be collected, they will make contact with you.  If you are concerned about your child being unwell, please call the main school number and ask to speak with someone in medbay.  Please be assured that if our medbay team feels your child needs to be collected because they are unwell, they will make contact with you.
  • If you are coming to school to collect your child, please could you park in an available space and come to reception and wait for your child.  The reason for this is, we have several different staff that work on reception and to safeguard your child we need to make sure they are collected correctly.
  • If you need to come and collect your child in an emergency due to a situation at home etc, on your way to collect your child, please could we ask that you call the main school number and ask to be put through to our attendance team.  They will then have a conversation with you and try and get your child to reception when you arrive where possible.
  • To report your child absent, please download the studybugs app https://studybugs.com/about/parents and report it there or email attendance@aylshamhigh.norfolk.sch.uk
  • Please click here for useful email addresses should you need to make contact with a staff member and also our main school number is 01263 733270.
  • If you call reception and would like to speak to someone regarding a pastoral issue, reception staff will do their best to find someone for you to speak to you, but this is not always possible as pastoral staff are often working with students.  If reception staff are unable to find a member of staff who is available to speak with you, an email will be sent asking a member of the team to contact you.

  • Due to safeguarding, we ask that you are understanding when you arrive at reception.  If our reception staff are on the phone when you ring the bell, or have someone with them, please wait for them to answer the door.  They may be having a conversation which is confidential.
  • We ask that you do not let anyone into reception, or hold the door open for them.  We know that this may seem impolite, but for safeguarding reasons it is very important that staff on reception are aware of everyone entering the building.
  • We ask that whenever visiting the school site unless stated otherwise that you enter through the main reception doors into the school.

Many thanks for your cooperation and support with this, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email office@aylshamhigh.norfolk.sch.uk

The Big Ambition - message from the Children's Commissioner for England

I have been overwhelmed by the response the survey has received. Over 300,000 children, young people, parents and carers have participated, making it one of the largest surveys of its kind!

This is the final push to hear from even more children before the survey closes, it is so important that every child in England has an opportunity to tell policy makers what they want and need ahead of the General Election.

By sharing my survey with your pupils and parents or carers, you can make sure that the children and young people of Norfolk are fairly represented in the results.

Children and parents or carers can complete the survey here:  www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk/thebigambition

I am so very grateful for your support, and I am beyond excited to share the findings.

Very best,

Dame Rachel De Souza

Children's Commissioner for England
